Margs & Matrimony: The Tulum / Cabo Bachelorette Playbook
Tulum is the bachelorette destination of the moment, Cabo is the older sister, and "Margs & Matrimony" is the theme that works across both. Lime green, tequila, salt rims, white linen, sunset taco nights. Here's the playbook that genuinely works in 2026 β including how to pick between Tulum and Cabo for your group.
Tulum vs Cabo: which is right for you
Both are excellent bachelorette destinations; they deliver different things.
- Tulum. Boho-jungle aesthetic, eco-luxe villas, beach clubs in jungle clearings, dirt roads (which are charming until they're not). Cenote swimming, Mayan ruins on day trips. More photogenic. More effort to get to. Best for groups age 28β35 who want the Pinterest aesthetic.
- Cabo. Polished resort destination, infinity pools, cleaner roads, easier flights from US West Coast. Less Boho, more Vegas-meets-Mexico. More predictable. Best for groups age 30β45 who want bach + relaxation, with less "rough around the edges".
For an East Coast US or European group, Tulum is the better story β the photos earn the longer flight. For a West Coast US group, Cabo is the easier yes.
Where to stay (the villa is the experience)
Tulum
- Sian Ka'an / Aldea Zama villas β quieter, more boho, 10-minute drive to beach clubs. $400β$1,200 per night for an 8-bedroom villa.
- Tulum Beach Road β directly on the beach, walkable to Habitas / Casa Malca / Papaya Playa. $1,000β$3,000 per night. Postcard-photogenic, premium-priced.
Cabo
- Pedregal villa β gated community, private beach, infinity pools. $800β$2,500 per night for the villa, sleeping 8β12.
- Cabo San Lucas downtown villa β walkable to the marina + clubs. $400β$1,200 per night.
- Esperanza or Waldorf Astoria suites β if you want resort instead of villa. $800+ per room per night.
What to pack β Margs & Matrimony specifics

- One pair of "going out" clothes per night β for Tulum these are flowy/boho; for Cabo these are silk slip dresses.
- Reef-safe SPF 50 (mandatory, especially for cenote swims in Tulum).
- Decor + favours from your Margs & Matrimony shopping list β pre-shipped to villa or carried in checked bags.
Friday: Arrival + first beach club night
Afternoon: Group lands in CancΓΊn (for Tulum, then 90-minute transfer) or San JosΓ© del Cabo (for Cabo, 30-minute transfer). Pre-book the transfer β Ubers don't always operate at airports in Mexico, and tourist taxis are 3x the price.
4pm: Villa check-in. Welcome margaritas (the MOH brings the salt rims, lime, and one bottle of PatrΓ³n pre-packed). Decor on the long table. Custom sashes handed out. Group photo.
7pm: First night out. In Tulum: Casa Malca for sunset cocktails + dinner at Arca, or Habitas. In Cabo: Sur Beach House at sunset, or El FarallΓ³n at Pedregal for the splurge. Bride in white linen, crew in lime/sage/cream.
10pm: Save the late-night energy for Saturday. Back to the villa.
Saturday: The big day
10am: Late breakfast. Tequila brunches are a thing in both destinations β book one or do it at the villa.
12pm: Beach club day. In Tulum: Papaya Playa Project (Sundays are best), Vagalume for the boho-luxe day, Mia for the more polished. In Cabo: Mango Deck for the lively bachelorette day, Sur Beach House for the elevated boho. Day-bed reservations are non-negotiable; book 6 weeks out. $400β$1,200 for an 8-person setup.
5pm: Back to the villa. Sunset at the pool. Photos.
8pm: Saturday dinner β the splurge. Tulum: Hartwood (book 8 weeks out), Arca, Casa Jaguar. Cabo: Edith's, Flora Farms (genuinely worth the long drive), El FarallΓ³n. Order family-style; do at least one round of tequila tasting.
11pm onward: The optional clubbing. Tulum: Gitano (boho jungle club), Bonbonniere. Cabo: La Vaquita, Mandala. The bride wears white. If the group is over the night-out part, end at the villa with mezcal and music.
Sunday: Cenote / pool day + final meal
In Tulum: Cenote day trip β Gran Cenote, Cenote Calavera, or Cenote Azul. $20 entry per cenote; $80 for a private guide for the group. Photos under the water are the lasting content.
In Cabo: Pool day at the villa. Order in lunch. Maybe a sunset cruise on a private catamaran ($600β$1,400 for the group, 2 hours).
Sunset: Final dinner at the villa. Order in tacos and margaritas; bring out the advice jar / polaroid wall / whatever the closing ritual is.
